Discount bargain websites have been around for some time now, although Incahoot.com, which has just opened its doors, offers an alternative spin with the likes of home broadband deals available.

Incahoot’s rather different approach is that it gives consumers a chance to make group-based savings on these sort of monthly bills, not just the normal spa weekend offers you might expect to find.

Using Incahoot, mobile phones deals can be gotten – even for the likes of the iPhone 4S and HTC Sensation – along with home and mobile broadband, not to mention energy bills which have been much hiked in recent times.

Although the service is a new venture, Incahoot has been running trials which have given it a starting membership base of around 5,000 users.

Mr A. Armstead, a member of Incahoot who located a home broadband package using the service, commented: “Can this be true at a third of the price I have been paying for the past 2 years? I will be on your site looking for other bargains!”

Obviously, the more people who sign up to Incahoot, the more impressive the discounts that the service will be able to leverage on such broad band deals. Signing up for the site, incidentally, is free and just requires the user to fill in a simple website form.

Incahoot has partnered up with companies such as Plusnet and T-Mobile in order to arrange discounts.

When it comes to mobile broadband, for instance, the offers available include data tariffs from network operator Three which start from £7.87 per month. For that asking price, the subscriber gets 1Gb of data per month, with an 18 month contract period.

For a bit more, £11.99 per month, a 5Gb per month deal is available over the same contract period, which represents a saving of 25% on the normal price.

A Vodafone mobile broadband package is also on offer for £9 per month, providing an internet dongle on a one month rolling contract, with a data allowance from 2Gb per month.

Should you wish to compare gas prices, firms such as Npower have also already signed up with Incahoot.

Furthermore, the website incorporates a savings calculator, so members can enter current monthly costs in terms of their mobile phone, home and mobile broadband, before being told what sort of savings they could potentially achieve.

Finding the right phones system solution for your business isn’t an easy task. But it just became easier thanks to the launch of a new comparison website, Phonesystem.co.uk, which covers major telecom suppliers across the UK.

A simple website questionnaire is all that needs to be filled in at Phonesystem.co.uk to receive free quotes from leading providers, catering for those with large or small needs, who are replacing or expanding an existing phone network, or indeed those looking for a business VoIP system.

Should you prefer talking to someone, an expert manned phone line can be contacted on 0800 043 9260, or a callback can be ordered by filling in an online form.

Steve Grand, Nottingham City FC’s IT Consultant, a previous client who used the service, was certainly satisfied, noting that it was, “so simple… it saved me so much time”.

The four step questionnaire on the website asks simple questions to discover the customer’s basic requirements, such as the volume of calls expected and ideal timeframe for installation.

A quick response to customers is promised, with free quotes from leading providers including LG, Cisco, Alcatel, Mitel and Panasonic being emailed across in short order. The likes of LG telephone systems are also covered.

Maintenance needs are dealt with too, with the comparison service combing through deals that encompass a network of system engineers which stretches across the UK.

PBX and VoIP phone systems can be quoted for those wishing to make savings by routing calls over the internet, and packages such as Avaya’s ip office 500 are taken into consideration.

Review

The KX-TG7342EB really should have a more punchy and memorable name, because this is one of the jewels in the Panasonic KX digital phone range.

The Panasonix KX-TG7342EB is designed to do everything you would expect – and demand – a digital phone should do.

Aside from the fact that it has a wide range of features, and looks stylish to boot, another big sell is the twin pack.

Oh, sure, plenty of digital phones come in a twin pack – it means you can have one phone downstairs and another upstairs so you don’t have to keep chasing down the stairs to answer it.

The difference is, this is a twin pack of KX-TG7342EB’s, which means we’re talking a pair of really quality phones.

Of course, you can always upgrade these with additional handsets as required – one for the kitchen, one for the bathroom, etc.

Ultimately, what we did we think of the KX-TG7342EB? We bought one. :)

Review

The Panasonic KX-TG2511 is a very basic model in terms of having few or smaller features than some of the other KX models – ie, 50 number phone book instead of 100.

However, that’s where the criticism stops.

This isn’t so much of a cut-back phone as much as a more compact version – it keeps the sleek look and easy usability – and comes at an incredibly cheap price.

It’s also has a very much reduced power conumption, not least in standby mode, without cutting back on how much it can be used – 170 hours standby mode without being plugged in, and 18 hours talk time before recharging – not bad for a phone that uses 90% power in standby mode.

Overall, a very effective compact model with a very nice price tag.

KX-TG6522EB review

The Panasonic KX-TG6522EB is easy to set up and has a clear and unconfusing display – and the calls are nice and clear. And like most of the DECT phones in the KX range, it’s very stylish looking.

The Panasonic KX-TG6522EB offers nothing particularly revolutionary, but is instead intended as a good quality general use phone – and this is precisely what it delivers.

There are no technical problems specific to this particular model – about the worst criticism that can be levelled at it is a wider range of quality ringtones would be nice, but that’s hardly underming the Panasonic KX-TG6522EB.

Panasonic have this week announced the end of their IP-PBX lines in the KX range, specifically the KX-TDA100 and KX-TDA200 models.

It forms part of a general migration from TDM and hybrid systems to outright IP Telephony systems.

The growth of the internet not simply as a communications platform, but also as a driver of infrastructure change, means that IP-based architecture is now the increasing norm for digital telecoms.

At the same time, Panasonic also released two new KX products: the KX-TGP550 (1 corded base + 6 (KX-TPA50) DECT stations) and KX-TGP500 (All DECT – 6 stations) specifically for SME markets. These are hosted SIP solutions that require bandwidth, as opposed to being an IP/SIP PBX.

While no doubt a number of reseller and suppliers will be unhappy that the IP-PBX lines are closing, and with it, potential revenue streams still inherent from legacy TDM sales and support, it remains clear that IP Telephony is going to be the focus now not just for Panasonic, but also for other manufacturers.
